Wizard101

Steven Ghoststalker

Greetings, I am a young wizard at heart. I started playing in 2009 when my children begged and pleaded to be allowed to play after seeing the commercial on Saturday morning cartoons (at least that’s my recollection). We had one family account with each family member controlling one wizard. We as a family played and enjoyed the game.

That is until my first wife passed from cancer and took the family master password with her. My daughter enlisted and I moved from Iowa to Southern Missouri to a rural area without internet access. I lost track of the game, though my sons continued to play when they could get to the local library.

In 2016 we moved due to a house fire and our new home was within a good internet provider service area. I began to play again on a new account as my children had gotten their own accounts in the intervening years. We could now quest together. Six years later, I still quest regularly with my children and my grandchildren as well.

Enough history, suffice it to say I’ve been with W101 for a long time. I have always noticed the pop culture references liberally scattered across the game. My awe at the writers and the breadth of knowledge across pop culture, history, mythology, and literature is far to much for my meager words to adequately describe. I have always wondered if there was an all inclusive list of the references within Wizard101 (and Pirate101). Aside from the occasional posts on the official Message Boards and a few articles at various blogs I have yet to see a inclusive list. Most of the entries on those postings are of a repetitive nature and only mention what the reference is without going into much detail.

After the release of Lemuria, I also realized that many of the Pulp Hero references were going over the top of the heads of many young wizards. So I took it upon myself to educate my fellow young wizards with a brief history lesson on the references. Thus was born the Heroes of Lemuria posts. These Facebook articles proved to be very popular and requests for this kind of treatment for the other pop culture references across the Spiral were sent my way. Thus is my quest, to find the references and provide you with some context to what the reference means.

On Wednesday May 1st, 2024 I published my 500th article. If you like this page between May 6, 2024 and May 10, 2024 you will be entered into a drawing for 1,000 crowns. Congratulations to Nick Seifken he is our winner.
