Finally after months of waiting, The Dark Knight made it to our dollar theater. It was worth the wait. The theater was packed and the VS family had a wonderful time.

VS – 2 pointed ears:
I’m never one to believe hype. This movie however lived up to it. Loved Two-Face’s make-up, hated what the producers did to him (*Spoiler Alert* It’ll take some clever writing for Two-Face to show up in the next Batman movie). I’m glad that the door was left open for the Joker to return but wonder who they’ll be able to cast to play him to the perfection that Heath Ledger did.

Mrs VS – 1 pointed ear (sympathy vote):
This movie was simply a good excuse to go sit in a dark room with my husband’s arm around me (VS’s side note the seats at the dollar theater aren’t very conducive to cuddling). It was definitely a movie for my husband and kids

PIT #1 – 2 pointed ears:
Wanted to know if the Hispanic Female cop was Detective Montoya (VS side note, I’m raising such a good girl, she’ll make some geek a good wife someday). Loved the Two-Face makeup and was very distressed at the fact that the producers killed him off. Is now trying to guess at the villian for the third.

PIT #2 – 2 pointed ears:
Pointed out that physics alone would not allow a truck and trailer to crash in that manner. Was very distressed over the demise of the “coolest Batmobile ever”.

PIT #3 – 2 pointed ears:
“This was a very good movie Daddy, there was hardly any kissing in it”. Also very distressed at the Batmobile’s demise.

Overall, this movie was a good 2 & 1/2 hour diversion. Made me want to play Hank’s Gotham CSI

  1. Christian Bale as Cookie Monster as Batman ruined this film for me. I think it’s a damn shame that Ledger is getting nods for “supporting actor.” I love Bale as Wayne, but the Cookie Monster voice completely takes me out of the movie every time. I literally want to mute it or fast forward through the Batman parts of a Batman movie.

To me, that has epic fail written all over it.

Now, do some minor re-cuts, make Joker the focal character, and you have a pretty hardcore pilot for a Gotham: CSI game.

  2. This is one of the tougher things to accomplish bridging the gap from comics to screen. In the comics it’s easy for Alfred to say “Master Bruce, you’re growling again,” inferring that Bruce Wayne and Batman have different voices. On the big screen Christian Bale has to speak with that growl, in addition to his American accent every time he dons the cowl, not an easy task.
Might it have been easier to do something digitally with the voice? perhaps but then it can sound fake (ala Alvin and the Chipmunks). The vocal characteristics of Batman/Bruce are minor quibbles compared to the overall quality of the flick.

  3. Hunted this down after checking out the Batman Begins review…

Minor quibble for certain, but, for me, it was just hard to take Batman seriously. And the movie is supposed to be about Batman, not the Joker. I need to watch BB again as I don’t remember being as annoyed by it in that one as I was in this one.

Christian Bale is awesome as Bruce Wayne. Nails everything. But, once the cowl goes on… Well, by the end of the movie I can’t help but think the reason the Joker is laughing is he’s thinking the same thing I am…

“Where are Harvey’s Cookies, Joker?! I want the cookies!”
